Quintus
LocalityChâteau de Gourgazaud is situated in the heart of the Minervois AOC wine producing region in the area known as "Petit Causse ". This wine is produced in limited quantities and suitable for laying down. It comes from an exceptional vintage and the meticulous selection of Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes.
Geography of vineyardGrown in old terraced decalcified vineyards with stony schistose and quartz acidic soil with scant organic matter.
Grapes varietySyrah and Mourvèdre.
VinificationA blend of non crushed Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes are placed in vat and allowed to ferment at a controlled temperature. This method throws out the finest qualities of the grapes in order to obtain a concentration of flavours and tannins. The quintessence of the juices held in the whole grapes is freed when the wine is pressed.
Tasting noteThis purplish red coloured wine with glints of fuchsia has an intense complex fruity aroma of cherries, violet, liquorice and fresh truffles. Rich, fleshy and mellow, full of prune and truffle aroma, it will mature well and the taste will develop from violets to truffles.
Food matchesDecant the wine before serving at a temperature of 15° to 16°C. Suitable for accompanying roasts, fillet of beef, game, poultry or cheese. Can be drunk now or laid down to reach its optimum in 10 years.
